Everyone deserves healthy sleep.

We support local health teams in the Pacific to provide high quality care for sleep disorders.

Healthy sleep is important for maintaining wellbeing. Sleep disorders increase the risk of numerous health conditions and can cause early death.

Sleep apnoea is a common disorder, affecting an estimated an estimated 900 million people globally. It is even more common in Pacific Island nations, with an estimated 15-30% of people in some Pacific Island nations having severe sleep apnoea. Sleep apnoea commonly causes severe sleepiness during the day reducing productivity, contributing to poor mental health and traffic accidents. It is associated with heart disease, diabetes, stroke and early death. When very severe, it can cause death in people under 40 years of age.

The diagnosis of sleep apnoea and other sleep disorders can be made with simple, inexpensive equipment with minimal waste. The treatment is often with a CPAP or similar machine. This can provide dramatic improvements in sleepiness and overall wellbeing, as well as reducing the risk of chronic health conditions.

Our goal is to collaborate with local healthcare workers to develop high quality care for sleep disorders in the Pacific region. We feel strongly about the importance of Universal Health Coverage which aims to ensure that all people have access to the full range of quality health services they need , when and where they need them , without financial hardship (World Health Organisation).

We provide education on assessing patients for sleep disorders, as well as diagnosing and treating these disorders. We provide financial and logistical support for formal education courses and international conference visits for healthcare workers.

We assist local healthcare teams by providing donated diagnostic equipment, CPAP devices and other equipment. We partner with industry to access subsidised equipment where donations are not possible.

With help from generous donations we can continue to develop local healthcare teams to treat this important disorder and improve health and wellbeing in the Pacific.
